FAQs
Do you teach online?
Yes! I visit two private schools during the week and slot private students around my school days. I sometimes visit pupils, and occasionally I offer lessons at home.
Do lessons online work?
They really do! All you need is a device, ideally a laptop or a tablet, and a strong and stable internet connection. I help you position the device during the first few minutes of the first lesson, and we’re ready to go!
How much do lessons cost?
Prices vary according to location. Get in touch for more information.
How long is a lesson?
I start young beginners with 30 min lessons. After some time, depending on enthusiasm and ability level, I may suggest 45 min or 60 min lessons.
Do I need to get a piano?
Yes! You will be assigned work to do during the week and you will definitely need an instrument to practice on. You can get an acoustic instrument, or a digital keyboard. The latter needs to be full size (88 keys), touch sensitive and have weighted keys. It should also come with a pedal.
Will I have to do exams?
Not necessarily. However, grade exams provide a welcome structure for a lot of learners. They also give tangible goals as well as an opportunity to develop confidence in performing under duress.
How much time will I need to put aside for practice?
Learning an instrument requires regular practice. It takes repetition to develop the psycho-physical pathways needed to play music correctly and with ease. A beginner should try to spend 15 minutes 4 or 5 times a week. At the beginning, pieces are very short and take little time to run through. As the music grows in length and complexity, so will the practice.
